  • About This Program

Ethereal singer Mercury Carter guides us through four multi-generational women jazz singers who have greatly inspired his style in a live musical performance.

To hear Mercury Carter live is to witness an expansive octave range, perfect pitch, and vocal confidence wrapped into a uniquely captivating sound. These same attributes have been given to some of the most beloved icons in jazz: Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Phyllis Hyman, and Rachelle Ferrell.

Mercury credits these four women for his love of singing and for elements of his vocal nuance. It has been a lifelong dream for Mercury to honor these women in live performance, and we at The Gantt are proud to host this homage.

For this special Wednesday Night Live, Mercury Carter will take guests on a vocal journey, specifically with covers of songs by Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Phyllis Hyman, and Rachelle Ferrell that have tested and enhanced his ability as a musician. The live band will be the foundation of this journey, and guests will learn more about these four iconic vocalists throughout the evening.
