  • About This Program

    By learning to balance what you eat, how you exercise and how you nurture yourself, you're providing a lesson that will serve you and your family well for a lifetime and the Gantt Center wants to do our part to help support you. We invite you to join us for the Gantt Center’s Inaugural Art of Living Fit + Well on Saturday, October 24, 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM. This event is a full day celebration designed as an intergenerational program that will engage, inform, inspire and promote the joy of living fit and well for the body, mind and spirit through a series of events:

    • Healthy eating cooking demonstrations
    • Interactive dance classes
    • Fitness & wellness expert advice
    • Workshops & classes including Zumba and yoga
    • Games and contests for the family

    This is a FREE, highly interactive event - children, youth, adults and seniors are invited to participate.

    The Morrison Healthcare Senior Executive Chef, Chris Aquilino and his team will be on hand to discuss eating healthy and showcase cooking demonstrations to help you begin your wellness journey. He will prepare regional dishes based on Chef Edna Lewis's Southern favorites!

    Sabauka Deshield, Certified Fitness Trainer at the McCrorey YMCA, will offer a 20-minute group fitness exercise session!

    Stories To Live By with Mother Minter
    Location: Classroom
    Join us for some of our favorite storytelling by Elisha Minter. Stories to Live By will promote wellness for all ages.

    Meet Cullen Jones and hear his story about his journey, as a man with a mission, to win the Olympics and how he wants to change the perception that Blacks can’t swim. He will sign autographs and take pictures.

    Terra Carter – Life of Being Bipolar
    Location: Classroom
    Terra Carter, Certified Educator on Bipolar and Depression, will discuss living with the bipolar disorder.

    Spoken Word Demonstrations with Eric Douglas aka Salgoud
    Location: 2nd Floor (note: performance starts at 12:15 pm)
    Spoken work performance and presentation of how the arts can create a sense of wellness in the mind and spirit.
