  • About This Program

The Gantt and Duke Energy present a series of free live musical performances for Jazz Appreciation Month, activating the new Duke Energy plaza on 525 S. Tryon Street every Wednesday in April, 12 noon - 1 pm. Designed to be an afternoon Uptown soundscape, everyone is invited to celebrate the foundational marvel that is the genre of jazz. Take a lunch break on the plaza and enjoy live music that explores the history, sub-genres, and nuance of jazz, all curated by instrumentalist Harvey Cummings.

    Series Schedule

Led by saxophonist Elijah Freeman, listeners can enjoy selections and classics by the jazz masters themselves: Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and more.

    April 10
    The Tim Scott Jr. Ensemble

Exploring the blending and merging of genres from early sampling to jazz incorporation.

    April 17

Exploring jazz undertones with folk and R&B.
