About This Program
Learn about Harriet Tubman's story in this engaging and interactive workshop!
Harriet Tubman is an incredible and formidable historical figure. Learn about her story from an enslaved girl, to a spy, and ultimately to a woman warrior of freedom as shared by author & storyteller Carlo L'Chelle Dawson, Mama Lo. Participants will engage in Harriet Tubman's "secret agent" training as they learn about the Underground Railroad.
Workshop attendees will:
- Participate in a storytelling experience with Harriet Tubman as a young girl, a spy in the Union war, and an abolitionist who helped enslaved African Americans escape.
- Learn about the Underground Railroad history, abolitionists, and coded terms in songs and letters.
- "Travel" through the Underground Railroad on a spy adventure like Harriet Tubman -- using maps, riddles, and other clues.
- Participate in an interactive review, with activities of story cloths/freedom quilts.
