    “The Standard" jazz workshop creates an opportunity for fans and students alike to enjoy, learn and explore the building blocks and instruments used in jazz music.

    Master class instructor, Harvey Cummings II, invites participants of all levels to engage with the band as they trace the story of America's classical music – jazz. During this live performance workshop, discover everything you ever wanted to know about jazz with a Q&A session and interactive musical demonstrations. Get ready for an unforgettable, multi-sensory experience that unites contemporary elements with the rich history of jazz culture!

  • About the Teaching Artist

    Harvey Cummings II, a highly accomplished musician from Charlotte, has gained widespread recognition for his exceptional talent and versatility as a saxophonist, pianist, songwriter, and producer. Leading The Harvey Cummings Project, he combines jazz, hip-hop, and soul into a unique and captivating musical experience. The ensemble has performed at festivals, collaborated with influential figures, like Barack Obama and Oprah Winfrey, and worked with notable organizations and brands.

    A graduate of North Carolina Central University and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Cummings holds degrees in Music and Jazz. His compositions have been featured on Cartoon Network's "The Boondocks," and he has collaborated with renowned artists.

    Recognized as a cornerstone of Charlotte's music scene, Cummings's ability to blend genres seamlessly has garnered him acclaim locally and internationally.
