Family First: Architect for a Day

Ages:
11+
Cost:
$10 per participant
  • About This Program

Imagine stepping into the shoes of an architect to create spaces that bring joy and inspiration!

During this workshop, participants start by brainstorming room ideas and sketching floor plans in the "schematic design" phase. Next, in the "design development phase," build a model of an important part of the home. In the final phase, projects are shared in fun, 1-minute pitches.

Participants gain amazing skills like model building, creating detailed models of their designs, and practice their ability to problem solve and present.

  • About the Teaching Artist

Hasheem Halim is a citizen architect who resides in the Derita neighborhood of Charlotte. From a young age he was fascinated by the way spaces and places could shape the way we feel. After moving to Charlotte in 2015, Halim has been dedicated to building community through design. With workshops centered around the different areas of design, he seeks to educate and inspire the next generation of creativity. In 2021 Halim created Derita Design. This has strengthened the efforts of building community in an overlooked neighborhood by giving the community a makerspace to experience various facets of design.

Outside of community work, Halim creates at HELT Design, a boutique architecture firm in Belmont, NC.
