About This Program
Inspired by the exploration of Black nowness in our newest exhibition, my Presence is Present: interpretations of afrosurrealism from the American South, we leverage the medium of fashion to imagine a more liberated future for Black people.
The evening's collection of programming includes a digital-hybrid fashion show, hands-on fabric & textile workshops, community conversation, and more. By using the tenets of Afrofuturism, we underscore the futuristic aesthetics of Black fashion through various artistic intersections, including live music, craft, and technology.
We've partnered with local artists, designers, and fashion enthusiasts to curate an experience that reflects on our past, celebrates the now, and welcomes the future of Blackness by way of fashion. Guests can expect to have a deeper understanding of the evolution of Black fashion, manifest their own designs, and experience budding innovation in the local fashion scene.
Guests are encouraged to dress as iconic versions of their future selves. All who are ages 21 and older are welcome to attend Art After Dark. There will be several opportunities throughout the night for guests to showcase their unique style.
