  • About This Program

Join us for an evening of art, culture, and community at the opening celebration of a’driane nieves: A Time for Furious Dancing – her first solo museum exhibition in the United States. This show features new and recent work by a’driane nieves, a self-taught, interdisciplinary artist whose practice examines the inner landscape of the self. Drawing heavily from memory and emotion, nieves’ abstract pieces act as a vessel for confronting pain and reclaiming joy, offering viewers an intimate visual language of transformation. The exhibition’s title is inspired by Hard Times Require Furious Dancing, a collection of poems by Alice Walker, published in 2010. The book explores themes of joy, sorrow, love, loss, and resilience in the face of personal and global challenges.

Delve into the passionate works of nieves and learn more about the inspiration behind her creations during a panel discussion with acclaimed curator Dexter Wimberly.
