  • About This Program

Founder, Anana Harris Parris was born in Washington, D.C. and attended Howard University. In 2011, she authored the first official Self-Care Day Proclamation and established the first Self-Care Day, which is recognized on December 4 and promotes self-care through community activism and the arts. Mayor Jennifer Roberts has signed an official proclamation declaring December 4, 2016, Self-Care Day in the City of Charlotte!

During this holiday season, the Harvey B. Gantt Center would like to invite you to take a moment to care for yourself.

Self-Care day inspires and empowers individuals to proactively participate in educational programming that provides preventative, holistic healing strategies and promotes sustainable practices.

Support a movement that promotes self-care as a form of social justice by emphasizing the importance of the cultural arts, education, health prevention, and wealth-building resources in the Charlotte metropolitan area. Charlotte’s Inaugural Self-Care Day is meant to inspire action and bring together individuals and organizations supporting citizens and communities year-round.
